A December Prayer

Updated: Dec 14, 2023

Thank You for this time of the year. It is a tangible reminder that You cared so much that You became one of Your own creation. For some reason, You chose this way to let us know that You totally understand us.

Thank You that Jesus is a high priest who understands my weakness. He knows what it is like to be tired, discouraged, overwhelmed, and sad. He loved the weak and the sinful and was not afraid to be associated with them. No matter how unworthy I feel, the babe in the manger reminds me that You crossed through time and the universe to ensure I would know that You understand us.

Thank You for music - for the way it lifts my spirit while still teaching me profound truths. Thank You for voices, pianos, violins, guitars, and a whole symphony of music we use at Christmas to praise You.

Now, I pray for joy and peace, especially during this season – peace in Israel, Ukraine, Myanmar, and so many other troubled places in the world. And for peace here at home, too. May we find pure joy in You and peace despite the busy pace and all the unsettled things in our lives – sickness, trauma, loneliness, and brokenness. May You, who sent Jesus to be broken, mend us all and give us the unfathomable peace that surpasses our understanding.

Because You sent Your Son one Christmas long ago, we trust and praise You today and throughout December.

Amen.
